Calvert Station under construction

Sunk within a roughly hewn cutting in Buckinghamshire, this is the site of the Great Central station at Calvert. Beyond the mortar mill and tipping wagon - with the name of the contractor, Walter Scott & Co., painted on the side - is the completed brick and girder bridge which would eventually span the twin tracks of the main line permanent way. A gap has been left at the centre of the bridge parapet: this is because the staircase which brought passengers down onto the single island platform has yet to be built. See on Route Map
