Navvy mission hut at Hucknall

Rising above this long wooden fence is the navvy mission hut at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. Established in 1877, the Navvy Mission Society was an organisation that sought to improve the navvies' moral and spiritual conduct. In purpose built structures such as this, or in existing barns or outbuildings converted for use as a mission room, lay preachers would hold readings, services and Sunday Schools for the navvies and their families.
