Constructing the platform buildings at Leicester Central Station
Looking north at the platform buildings of Leicester Central nearing completion, 28.1.1899. By this time, coal traffic had already been using the Line for six months, and less than two months after this photograph was taken, the London Extension saw its first passenger service head north from Marylebone. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor who built this stretch of the Last Main Line (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone). See on Route Map
