Loughborough Central Station on the Great Central Railway in 2002.
The old London Extension ceased to exist as a through route in 1966, although a truncated service ran until 1969. From that date, the railway was no more. Thankfully, a group of preservationists stepped in to try and save a section of the old main line and, operating as the Main Line Steam Trust, they managed to save the section between Belgrave & Birstall and Loughborough Central stations. From small beginnings, the new Great Central Railway has grown into one of the leading preserved railways in the UK. Here we see Platform No. 1 at Loughborough Central on 19th July 2002. Display luggage lines the platform and hanging baskets adorn the glass canopy. This could easily be the 1950's or 60's. See on Route Map
