Contractors' 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, NEWCASTLE.
Hudswell Clarke & Co. 0-6-0 contractor's saddletank locomotive, NEWCASTLE, No. 237 of 1882, pictured with her crew and a team of navvies at Culworth, Northamptonshire in 1896. Newcastle-upon-Tyne was the base of Walter Scott & Co., the firm who built this stretch of the railway (Contract No. 5, Woodford to Brackley). Note the engine's outside cylinders - unusual among the contractors' locomotives working on the London Extension. See on Route Map
